Mission Statement

We are an interactive educational site, which is created to make you feel more comfortable in employment relationships. We are inviting the employees, contractors and employers  on a journey to the world of Employment Law, which someone can find a jungle  if not familiar with. We will help you to navigate the field and  find the information you need to better understand your rights and responsibilities at work, address your issues and  protect  your interests  at different stages.

We are determined to make the site simple, comprehensive  and easy to navigate. The subject is broad and will be covered in stages. Every stage should be self-sufficient.

Personal experience.

We started the site to share our  personal experience with others. When we encountered  the problem we were overwhelmed with emotions and did not know how to approach the situation. We genuinely believed that since we had done nothing wrong the law will be on our site.  We learned a lot  through the process and want to share it with you.

Whether you are an employee at this time and have been offered  a job of your dream, or you are an employer who flourishes with the ideas that ooze out of you at every pore and you are full of energy and desire to take off , the last thing you want to talk about now is litigation. You desperately try to avoid even a thought of it. Nevertheless, the approach “Let’s cross that bridge when we get to it” is not practical.  You do not have to argue because I will agree that not everyone goes through litigation and we hope you will not be the one who does. I was not that fortunate,  and I can tell you how health-, energy- and money – consuming it could be. It could be even more devastating for you and your business if the decision that the court ultimately makes  is not in your favour  and   more frustrating if it is because of the tiny little coma between the words.  Ignorance to a tiny technical detail may cost you dearly in the future.  Many of us heard about a landmark case where Rogers Communications Inc. could make a Guinness Book of world records by paying $2.13-million extra for the grammar lesson.  Why did I mention it?  When it comes to litigation everything counts. The point is not to scare you , but rather to raise awareness of the things that  “you do not know that you do not know”, draw your attention to the things you never thought of  before so that you  spread straw before you fall.

All provinces in Canada, except Quebec, have  a common law legal system which means that the decisions are made based on the precedents and interpretation of legislation by the case law. In its turn the rights upheld by the decisions and decision-makers are encoded therein and shapes the relationships in different spheres of life between people and organizations in the society. The employment relationships are not an exception.
